Virtual Learning Day Instructions

Step #1: Log your attendance by clicking on your school’s button to complete the form. (Note: 7-12 students must complete this step while logged into their Google accounts. Parents cannot complete this step for them.)

Step #2: Log into Schoology to complete assignments:

Schoology

Many common questions about the procedures for a virtual learning day (otherwise known as a Flexible Instruction Day, or FID) can be answered by reading the contents of this page. Should you need help with your assignments, please reach out to your teacher(s) via email, messages on ParentSquare, or during designated online office times.

During a virtual learning day, students are expected to complete both an attendance log and all assigned work from home during a school day that may otherwise be canceled, such as when it snows or when there's a building emergency. Please note that not all snow days or emergencies will be virtual. To help students, teachers will be available for questions and help during the virtual day by email and during designated office hours.

To be considered "present," students must complete assigned work. They must also record their attendance on the Google Form or by calling their respective attendance line no later than 10:30AM. Please find the link to the attendance form by clicking the button on this page to your respective building's form. You may call your respective school's attendance line if you are experiencing significant power or internet outages and you cannot record attendance or access and complete schoolwork:

Procedures

  • On the morning of the virtual day, students must log on and record their attendance by 10:30AM using the designated Google Form attendance log for their building. Please click on the button above to access these forms. 
  • Families experiencing problems with internet connectivity must call the school office by 10:30AM to report student attendance.
  • Any student whose attendance has not been reported by 10:30AM via the Google Form or by telephone will be marked absent for the day.
  • Grades K-12: Teachers will post schoolwork for students on Schoology by 9AM on the virtual day (please allow extra time during a day that is first delayed and then becomes virtual). Students must complete and submit their assignments to their teacher via Schoology on the virtual day or to their teacher upon their return to school as directed.
  • Grades K-4 Special Areas (Art, Library, Music, Health/Phys. Ed.): Students in grades K-4 will have a 15-minute assignment for all specials included in their homeroom's Schoology folder.
  • Grades 5-6 Special Areas: (Art, Library, Music, Health/Phys.Ed.): Students will complete an assignment on Schoology from the special they would have normally had that day at school.
  • All teachers and professional staff members will be available via email during the virtual day. In addition, all teachers and professional staff will have a designated half hour during the morning and half hour during the afternoon when they can be reached live online for further help or questions. This link will be provided via ParentSquare.
  • Assignments for students with special needs will be developed utilizing their program modifications, specially designed instruction and supplementary aids and services identified in their Individualized Education Plans. Any related services (Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech, etc.) that cannot be provided remotely on the virtual day will be rescheduled according to the frequency requirements of the student’s IEP.
  • Exeter Cyber Academy (ECA): Students enrolled in Exeter Cyber Academy should complete assignments following their normal schedule.
  • Athletics and Extracurricular Activities: The District will make a separate decision on whether to hold athletics and extracurricular activities. 
  • Technology Support: Students or families experiencing technical difficulties may visit the Technology Department page for help resources at by visiting exetersd.org/tech or by calling the technology support line at 610-898-9585 and select your appropriate building. Please leave a message with your student's name and your phone number where someone can return your call.
  • Food Service: Meals will not be provided on a virtual day.

FAQs

  • When a virtual day will be used, the District will communicate via ParentSquare that at-home learning is in place--similar to how school closings and delays are announced. Information also will be posted on the website.

  • Most school districts use virtual learning in lieu of a day off for inclement weather or an emergency.

  • Yes. Attendance is required on a virtual learning day, and each virtual learning day will count as a regular school day. Students must record their attendance via the Google Form attendance log or by calling their home building attendance line:
